I’d heard that a whole host of stars from the universe were going to be there, but would they be locked away in some basement room where only those few privileged with fat wallets would get to see them?

Although a sci-fi fan, I’m hardly a die hard fanatic that dresses up every weekend in a Starfleet uniform to go and meet at a friend’s place and play role play games. One of my fears was that I would stand out like a sore thumb in jeans, trainers and T shirt, surrounded by angry Jedi and other alien life forms, all hungry for the blood of a rather ordinary Englishman.

Thankfully, the day was nothing like that. With props galore, including the Batmobile from the ‘Dark Knight’ at the entrance doorway, and more stars on show than an average night sky in Birmingham, the day truly was a day rubbing shoulders with the stars.

At one point, I was standing, looking around, trying to make up my mind what and who to see next, when Admiral James T. Kirk himself walked right by me. At another point later in the day, I couldn’t believe my luck when I turned around to see David Prowse, the man behind the Darth Vader mask for the original Comic Book Movies like 3 Star Wars films standing right beside me.

The sheer amount of sci-fi memorabilia, actors and actresses from the likes of Farscape, Terminator 3, Big Trouble In Little China and Star Wars, not to mention the crowds of people, left me reeling at times, not knowing which way to turn next.

And yes, there were lots of people dressed up as every imaginable film and show character. Out of these, many were the shows’ official characters employed to ‘wow’the crowd, while others were fans who were out to have a great day.

Was it worth it and would I go to the convention again? Well, on the train home to Birmingham, feeling pretty tired after all the excitement of the day, I was already thinking ahead and planning to find out which other conventions were coming up in the year ahead. Maybe the day will come when I leave Mr Ordinary at home and, just for the day, transform into a raving lunatic; I mean, creature from another world.

All in all, I was pretty bowled over by the experience, especially by Wonder Woman on the Saturday. I’m hoping that if I’m ever in distress, maybe, just maybe, she’ll be the one that comes to my rescue.

Comic Book Collecting 101 http://comicbookcast.com/25-comic-book-collecting-101 http://comicbookcast.com/25-comic-book-collecting-101#comments Tue, 15 Jan 2013 10:33:03 +0000 Admin http://50.28.63.141/~acc97/comicbookcast-com/?p=25 Collecting comic books is a source of joy for many comic book and graphic novel enthusiasts.  However, many collectors have trouble finding comics that they feel would be worth collecting and don’t really know what to do with them when they do.  There are a number of ways that collectors and comic enthusiasts can find out where to buy, sell and trade collectible comics and other memorabilia.  You can find comic books and other collectable memorabilia in a number of places.  Comic conventions are an excellent way to find collectible comics, meet comic insiders and hear the latest comic industry news.  One of the best places to find comic books is on the internet.  You can find people selling comic books on different websites all over the web.  One way to find comic books is in an online market place such as Amazon.  Ebay is one of the most popular places on the net to find auctions for collectible comic books.

You can also find collectible comic books online in comic collecting forums.  One of the sites that I would recommend is Planet Bugle ().  Planet Bugle provides a comic forum, a comic wiki, comic news, comic collecting faq’s and other information on collecting comic books and more.  Comic forums and message boards allow you to connect with other collectors who are selling, buying and trading comic and can provide you with information and insight on collecting comic books. As you start to accumulate more and more comic you will need to find ways to keep track of your comic book collection.
